Kathryn Van Buren LPC, MHSP
She/Her
Licensed Nashville based therapist
Clinical Director & Founder of Three Cords Therapy
Kathryn, a Nashville native and an enthusiastic Enneagram 7, thrives on exploring the best that life has to offer through meaningful relationships. Her journey into therapy was inspired by her own path of self-discovery, where she learned that embracing her true feelings—rather than forcing constant happiness—led to a deeper, more genuine joy.
Kathryn believes that everyone needs a “soft place to land” at different times in their lives—a safe space where they can be seen, cared for, and accepted in their entirety, including their imperfections. This kind of nurturing environment is often elusive, but Kathryn aims to provide just that in her practice.
She views connection as fundamental to our well-being and is committed to helping clients move beyond merely surviving to truly thriving. Kathryn’s therapeutic approach, rooted in attachment-focused trauma work, is designed to foster secure relationships within the therapy process. This foundation supports clients in building healthy, fulfilling connections in their own lives. Her extensive training encompasses addiction, eating disorders, body image issues, and trauma.
Outside of therapy, you might catch Kathryn recording an episode of Feeling Things with Amy & Kat, attempting pickleball with her husband, or rallying friends for a game of Euchre or Phase 10.

How would you describe therapy?
Therapy is like deep cleaning your garage. Everyone’s garage could use a cleaning every once in a while, you find things you didn’t had, you throw out a lot of stuff that at one point you thought you needed, and you make space for new stuff that you do actually need now. I wouldn’t call cleaning the garage fun. . . but if the right people come over to help it’s not so bad 🙂
Most unexpected part of being a therapist?
How much I learn about myself from my clients. It’s not about having all the right answers, it is about creating a space for client’s to discovertheir answers.
Favorite part of your job?
Watching a client’s face when something starts to click.
If your life was a tv show what would it be called?
“Thanks for the Invite but I’m Already In Bed”
A story about a girl who wants to be included but is really tired.
